PATHS
Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies
Promoting alternative thinking strategies (PATHS) is a social emotional learning programme for primary children. This support is delivered at the whole-school level, with lessons differentiated to be developmentally appropriate for the different stages. This programme is evidence-based, and links learning with curricular experiences and outcomes
PATHS aims to develop children’s emotional literacy, social skills & interpersonal problem-solving skills (it also aims to reduce aggressive behaviours). For all age groups, PATHS delivers learning in three core areas: emotional understanding, self-control, & peer relationships – for upper primary children, there are lessons around social problem-solving.
Training, coaching and delivery of PATHS is supported by Barnardo’s. Within South Ayrshire, this programme is currently being delivered within 2 primary schools – Girvan Primary School and Dundonald Primary School. Please note that this is a universal support, so a referral is not necessary to access it.
